Contribution Limits

The maximum contribution from an individual to a candidate for California State Assembly is $5,900 per election (2025-2026 limit, adjusted biennially by the FPPC). The primary and general are separate elections.
Cash contributions of $100 or more are prohibited (Cal. Gov. Code § 84300).
Contributions are not tax-deductible.

Donor Information Requirements

Under California law, the following information must be itemized for contributions of $100 or more:

Contributor's full legal name
Contributor's street address
Contributor's occupation
Contributor's employer (or "self-employed" / "retired" if applicable)

Contributions of $100 or more are disclosed on Form 460 filings with the California Secretary of State and become part of the public record.

Foreign National Prohibition

Federal law (52 U.S.C. § 30121) prohibits contributions, donations, expenditures, and disbursements solicited, directed, received, or made directly or indirectly by or from foreign nationals in connection with any federal, state, or local election. This prohibition applies to California state elections.
